All the Fall Vibes: A List

If you’re like me – I am super excited for this fall season. It doesn’t last super long unfortunately, so we have to do what we can while the season lasts! I’ve compiled a list of all things fall, so you can get some ideas too.

  1. Should I start with the most obvious one? Pumpkin picking! I looooove pumpkin season. It’s that time of year to pick out pumpkins to decorate your house with, gourds to decorate your room and then later on in October, pumpkins to carve!!

2. Visit your local harvest festival. I know that where I live, there are so many different harvest festivals going on from city to city. I love going around and looking at all the vendors while sipping some hot apple cider and soaking in that autumn weather. Depending on what kind of market it is, you can find jams and spreads, candy apples, corn on the cob, some cute fall apparel and accessories etc. A lot of vendors are people like you and I, just showing the world what they can make.

3. Take a walk in a park with lots of trees. Certain parks have GORGEOUS trees of all different colours. It’s such a great time to take daily walks and embrace the autumn weather and colours. If you’re in Toronto, one of the best places to go would be High Park. High Park is such a beautiful park, every single season. But especially during the fall and spring. Definitely a must-see.

4. Baking!!! God, I love baking. It’s definitely a new found hobby with the whole quarantine happening. I’ve been trying to bake healthy versions of foods such as gluten-free, lactose-free and refined sugar-free muffins and cookies. I’m gluten and lactose sensitive so that’s the only reason why I’ve chosen to make my recipes like that. But gluten and dairy is not bad for you and does not need to be something you restrict if you don’t have to! But anyways, this is the time to get some baking in. Apple pie? Sign me up.

5. HALLOWEEN MOVIES. Do I need to say any more?! This is what I LIVE for during this fall season. There are so many classics on Netflix right now such as: Hocus Pocus, Hubie Halloween, Rebecca, Cadaver, Goosebumps, Oculus, Sinister, Coraline and more. There’s so many different movies to watch depending on the level of horror/thriller you’re looking for.

6. Corn Maze! I love these. It’s a lot more fun to do it either with your S/O or a few friends. Debating which ways to go and getting lost is so fun and sure to be a great activity to add to your list.

7. If you’re an animal lover like me, visiting farm animals or a petting zoo can be so fun this season. If you’re going East, there is one about an hour and a half from Toronto called the Big Apple. They have activities there, farm animals, indoor market etc. You can even feed the animals and pet them! So fun for the family.

8. Although Toronto has cancelled all of their fall events such as Oktoberfest, you can host your own! Be aware of the COVID guidelines, but invite a few friends and do a potluck, decorate the house, put on some halloween tunes and drink some spooky drinks. It’s cheaper, more personal and could be more fun depending on how you execute it. Have fun!!

9. Find a nice bike trail & ride bikes with a friend or S/O! Get your bike riding in before the winter season comes, exploring the town you live in could be super fun especially if you find a spot that you’ve never seen before. Or, if you don’t have a bike or don’t want to bike – hike! I love hiking especially on hike trails or large conservation areas. The trees and wildlife are always so pretty. If you’re in the GTA, a beautiful spot is Heber Down Conservation Area.

10. Collect leaves and press them for a scrapbook later. I used to do this a TON when I was younger. I was so fascinated by how the leaves would change colour and the different colours based on the type of leaf. They’re super pretty and look great for scrapbooks, book marks, coasters, framed etc.

11. Pick up a new hobby – candle making! With all different kinds of scents this season, this could be way better than your typical bath and body works candles because YOU made them. AND, with the lovely time we live in – Amazon Prime ships to you the next day so it’s easy to get started.

12. Dress up in your cutest ‘fit, pack a basket of food and a soft blanket and grab your bff or S/O and go on a picnic. You could even grab coffees or hot apple cider on the way to your destination and don’t forget to snap a pic. Such a cute date idea.

13. Last but not least, shopping. I LOVE FALL DECOR! You can go to a Marshalls, Winners, Homesense or even Dollarama and grab some cute fall decor for an affordable price. I love decorating my room with cute fall leaves (fake, of course), fall themed pillows, ceramic pumpkins or even real ones! Also, decorate your front porch with a super cute fall-themed welcome mat, a hay bale, pumpkins, sunflowers etc. You can find some great decor ideas on Pinterest. I’m obsessed.

How to be a Better Partner

Thinking about your past relationships, it can be so easy to point out your ex-partner’s flaws and issues. They were the reason it all went to shit, right? They weren’t the best partner – they had their own issues. You hope that they fix them for their next relationship, whoever that poor sucker is. But wait – I said that is the easy way. It can be so easy to point those out, but we often don’t take very much time to truly look in the mirror and figure out how we can better ourselves and become better partners. Often, both partners in a relationship can point out the other’s flaws or issues but they fail to point out their own, or if they do – work to change it.

Taking a step back is the first and most important part of being a better partner. Listen to what your partner is saying or what was said, but do not get caught up in it. Try to weed out the actual issue that was at hand. Maybe your partner found that you were being too “bossy”? Or, you were on your phone too much? If things like that sprung up an argument, take it into consideration. For example, try not to be on your phone as much – make a point of putting your phone down during meals, while talking with people etc. The point is – take time to listen and work on the issue even if you didn’t think it was your issue at first. A relationship needs communication and compromise.

When getting into a new relationship – focus on your partner and keep in mind the things that went wrong in your other relationship but be very careful not to let it weigh you down or interfere with this current relationship. Starting over with someone new can feel like a fresh start! Don’t let your previous relationship ruin the excitement – but keep a few tid bits in the back of your head to potentially avoid future issues. It’s all about growth.

However, I think that the real solution to becoming a better partner is ultimately becoming a better person in general. Getting enough sleep, drinking enough water, eating healthier – these things are actually all very valid for ensuring a healthy relationship. Often, if a partner is lacking in any of these areas – it can make them more irritable, off balanced etc. essentially leading to petty arguments that might not have even happened if they felt balanced. Also, not to mention that mental health plays a massive role in all relationships including friendships. So, really take those steps to bettering your mental and physical health to become an overall better person.

Another good idea to help bring the fun back into the relationship is to do something new! If your relationship consists of Netflix and eating out, try taking a hike together or trying a new hobby like painting, biking, playing pool or cards. The point is – do more together and enjoy each other’s company. It doesn’t have to consist of a lot of money or travelling to a different country – even simple things like taking nightly walks together would be beneficial to your relationship.

If there are more serious issues that are reoccurring in your relationship, it could be a good idea to get counselling to root through the problems and get that spark flickering again. Love shouldn’t feel like a battle. Embrace each other – you are on the same team.
